Where did the last month go?

I mean really where did it go? Possibly my last baby and Justin is already one month old! (Well, technically it's Saturday he turns one month.) I really want him to stay little forever. I keep telling Jonathan that since Katelynn is at a fun talking and learning age and Justin is my snuggly newborn, we should just freeze life right here and enjoy our kids at this age forever. If only we really could do that!

At one month old, Justin is changing so much already! He has become much more alert, follows objects with his eyes, and is holding up his head so well. We also noticed in the past few days that he really wants to push with his legs. Katelynn also loved to stand at an earlier age, but Justin is a wild child. He just loves to move! During tummy time the other day, he literally moved himself over about 4 inches from where he started just from squirming around! No smiles yet, but I think they're close and I can't wait for that first grin!

We took Justin today (Thursday) for a post-hospital/one month check-up. He is doing great. He is following in his sister's footsteps of being a tall little guy. When he was born he was 7 lbs, 9 oz and 20 inches long. Today at his appointment, he measured 9 lbs, 9 oz (which funny thing is Katelynn was 9,9 at her one month too!) and 22.5 inches long (Katelynn was only 21 3/4). His weight was 50% and his height was 75-90% just like Katelynn. They said he has a small head though since it's only 25%, but I think he has the perfect little head- he,he. He had a mild episode Wednesday night that was very similar to the exact reason he was hospitalized. It was his first one in nine days. It seemed more mild to me since he wasn't pale and probably because I was much more calm about it knowing we had him checked out and everything was normal. I put my hand on his arm and he only twitched two more times before it stopped. The pediatrician said this was a good sign and suggested we just keep an eye on it. He mentioned there was a possibility it could be reflux causing it, but it didn't seem as likely since he only does it asleep and doesn't really have any other symptoms. Chances are it really is just a more drastic case of "infant startle syndrome" (I forget the medical term for it.) In any case, we're just going to monitor him some more and hope that nothing comes of it. Justin will return in one month to the pediatrician and start immunizations then. I hope the next month goes really, really slow. I don't want my baby to get any bigger!

  1. I totally felt the same way you did - it was nice having Olivia that I could talk to and understood things well and it was nice having a baby to snuggle with. Now we only get snuggles when he isn't feel well (like today) and boy is it nice (not that you want them to not feel well.
