PB & J, Anyone?

With two kids, lunchtime can be a little tricky at times. The other day we suggested to Katelynn that we make lunch. She wanted peanut butter and jelly. I get out the stuff as she is getting a chair to help and as I go back to get lunch meat for Jonathan and my sandwich, Katelynn decides to get her sandwich started on her own. Who needs a knife when you have a hand that fits in the peanut butter jar, right?

Nothing like a nice boat ride!

Why do we love living in North Carolina? Less than a week after we had snow, and here we are in tank tops cruising around on our boat. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have been boating at the beginning of March in Michigan! This was Justin's first boat ride, and he pretty much just slept in the carrier on mommy the entire time, but Katelynn had a blast. I think she is going to like boating this year more than she ever has. Hopefully the warm weather sticks around for the most part so we can keep taking advantage of having our boat on the weekends.
Mommy, Katelynn... and Justin- yes, look closely- do you see that little bit of skin poking out of my black carrier? That's my little guy all snug and being kept away from the wind in the K'tan carrier.

Looking Back.. Four years ago today.

Believe it or not, it has been four years since Jonathan and I said "I do," and in four years, we have went from being a family of two to being a family of four. Who would have known that we would come this far four years ago? I love thinking back to our wedding day. It was the greatest day! For those of you who didn't get to be there, we were married on South Beach in Miami, FL and took a yacht around the Biscayne Bay for the reception. We had a GREAT time and had about 50 friends and family from out of town all join us. We will forever cherish our special day. Here are some pictures from our wedding day!

A singing queen

I have no pics for you all today as it was a crazy busy day full of errands, but I did want to share a few funnies from our day. Katelynn has become quite the talker and very inquisitive during our drives lately. She doesn't stop asking questions. "Mommy, what color am I?" "Mommy, what color is that truck?" "Mommy, what is this?"... and on it goes.

Well, today she asked me what my name was. I said, "You mean mommy or my other name?" She wanted to know my other name so I told her it was Jessica. Then she asked what Daddy's name was, and I said, "Jon." (Jonathan prefers to go by this and mostly everyone but me calls him that so I figured I would just tell her that.) We have never really talked about our "real" names to her other than quite a while ago (probably over six months ago) so imagine my shock when Katelynn says, "NOooooo. Daddy's name is Jon-thon." I almost died laughing.

If we're not chatting while driving, we are listening and singing all kinds of kid songs. Katelynn's favorite songs lately are "John Jacob Jinglehimmerschmidt", "ABCs", the duck song by Raffi (whatever the name of that one is), and "Sunny Days" Seasame Street song. Today was interesting though as she started singing to the music and after I didn't chime in a minute later, she said, "You not singing really much." I of course started singing, but any time I stopped, she would again tell me I wasn't singing "really much." In her Raffi CD, it's a concert CD so they clap after every song and later in the ride, I even got told I wasn't clapping "really much". It's probably going to get old having to sing or get in "trouble" by Katelynn, but it was pretty humourous today!

Goodnight! Don't let the bed bugs bite!

Oh, sure. They look sweet and innocent and ready to just go right to bed without giving mommy and daddy any issues- right? Ha! If only bedtime were that easy around here, but it has been my biggest challenge being alone with the kids while Jonathan is traveling. Justin is not on any type of schedule whatsoever and Katelynn... well, Katelynn is the same as always. She keeps me on my toes and every time I think I have it figured out on how to get her to sleep at night and STAY asleep ALL night long, she throws me a curve ball and I have to start all over trying to figure the girl out! Two and a half years later, the most she has slept through the night is about twice a week, and she's far from that right now. I would be happy if she only woke up once a night right now. It seems as soon as I get one of them back down to sleep, the other one is up. It may take me a good eighteen years from now, but one day I'll get more than three consecutive hours of sleep at night!

Snow Day!

A snow day in North Carolina- can you believe it?! For once, I was actually excited to see it coming down. Most of the time we don't even get an inch and it's gone in an hour, but this time was lots of snow and it's still here over 12 hours later! Jonathan always gets excited so he can go and play in the weather, but by "play" I mean get in his truck and try to do fishtails. He misses that from Michigan! So he played last night and then the kids and I went out this morning to enjoy some real snow! This is the first time since Katelynn has been born that it has snowed enough to make a snowman! We didn't actually make a snowman today since Justin was most interested in being held the entire time, but we still had lots of fun! Katelynn was a huge fan of the snow and didn't want to come inside even after two hours of playing. I had to layer her clothes since we didn't have any snow gear. She was wearing tights, three pairs of pants, four pairs of socks, two shirts, and her jacket plus gloves and a hat.. oh and tennis shoes since we have no boots! It's always fun trying to come up with ideas for covering her up when it comes to playing in the snow. It's just not worth buying gear down here for a once in a moon snowfall.

Scrub-a-dub-dub!

Justin took his first REAL bath today!! The poor little guy- his cord fell off over a week ago, but we wanted to make sure Daddy got to be here to see his first time and since Jonathan was traveling, this was the first time we had the chance to do it. I've been giving him sponge baths, which he hates, but he LOVED his real bath! He didn't even let out a whimper when we put him in it.
Getting out of the tub was a different story. He wasn't a fan of the cold air so we wrapped him in two towels to get nice and warm!

And this post wouldn't be complete without sharing some pictures from one of Katelynn's more recent baths.
Being a fish!
Katelynn loves to blow bubbles like she learned in swim class! Today she was extra daring and was dunking herself.
